7-Day Machame Route Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Day 2: Moshi (1,400m) – Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (3,000m)

After a drive to Machame Gate, begin your journey through the dense rainforest, trekking toward Machame Camp.
Overnight: Camping at Machame Camp.
Day 3: Machame Camp (3,000m) – Shira Camp (3,840m)
Trekking Time: 5–6 hours | Distance: 5km
The trail steepens as you leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone with expansive views of the Shira Plateau.

Day 4: Shira Camp (3,840m) – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours | Distance: 10km
Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. This up-and-down trek helps with altitude adjustment.
Overnight: Camping at Barranco Camp.
Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 5km
Start the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb. Continue to Karanga Camp, where you’ll enjoy sweeping views.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 4km
The trail climbs steadily toward Barafu Camp, your base camp before the summit attempt. Rest early in preparation for the midnight climb.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,640m) – Summit (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,080m)
Summit Attempt: Start at midnight | Trekking Time: 6–8 hours to Uhuru Peak
Descent: 5–7 hours to Mweka Camp | Total Distance: 17km
Begin the final push to Uhuru Peak, reaching the summit at dawn for a spectacular sunrise. After celebrating at the top, descend to Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp.
Overnight: Camping at Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,080m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Moshi
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 10km
Complete your descent through the rainforest, arriving at Mweka Gate. After receiving your summit certificate, transfer back to Moshi for a relaxing night.
Overnight: Hotel in Moshi.
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.
