Day-by-Day Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you’ll have a pre-trek briefing with your guide to finalize preparations for the climb.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Elevation: 1,870m to 2,720m | Distance: 8km | Time: 5-6 hours
Your trek begins at Marangu Gate, where you’ll pass through lush rainforest filled with unique flora and fauna. Arrive at Mandara Hut for your first night on the mountain, where you can explore the nearby Maundi Crater for stunning views.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Elevation: 2,720m to 3,720m | Distance: 12km | Time: 6-8 hours
Leaving the rainforest, the trail ascends to the moorland zone, characterized by towering Senecio plants and dramatic landscapes. After a rewarding trek, you’ll reach Horombo Hut with panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Elevation: 3,720m to 4,703m | Distance: 10km | Time: 5-7 hours
Today’s trek leads you through the sparse alpine desert, where the scenery changes dramatically as you get closer to the peak. You’ll reach Kibo Hut, located at the base of Kibo, and rest in preparation for the midnight summit attempt.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Elevation: 4,703m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) to 3,720m | Distance: 21km | Time: 10-14 hours
Begin your summit trek just after midnight. The climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, is challenging but immensely rewarding. As you reach the summit, you’ll witness a spectacular sunrise over the African plains. After celebrating at the top, descend back to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Elevation: 3,720m to 1,870m | Distance: 20km | Time: 6-8 hours
Enjoy a final scenic descent through the rainforest as you make your way back to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, you’ll receive your summit certificate, a proud reminder of your incredible achievement. Transfer back to Moshi for some rest and celebration.
