After completing the Lemosho Route 9 Days you will have the choice of booking an incredible Safari of the National Parks of Tanzania, checking out the culture with some of our short tours or taking a well earned rest on the island of Zanzibar.

Day 1. Arrival and welcome to Tanzania.

Arriving any time at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), there will be a private transfer waiting at the Airport to collect and get you to your hotel in Moshi where you will be able to relax and enjoy your first night in Moshi, Tanzania.

Your Kilimanjaro Bound tour guide will meet you at your hotel for a Mount Kilimanjaro climbing brief and an equipment check.

We will also check and confirm you have the appropriate mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance.

Day 2. Moshi to Lemosho Forest Camp. (Hiking Time: 3-4 hours / Altitude: 2650 m).
After breakfast at the lodge / hotel we will transfer straight to Londrossi National Park Gate and after completing the necessary registration formalities for accessing Mount Kilimanjaro, we drive through varied farmland with open views over the plains to reach the Lemosho road head. We often have our lunch in the glades before starting to walk.

It is an easy day of walking up a small path through beautiful and lush forest. This area has a variety of game, including buffalo. We camp at Lemosho Forest Camp (2650 m).

Day 3. Lemosho Forest Camp to Shira One. (Hiking Time: 6-7 hours / Altitude: 3550 m).

After breakfast and starting trekking we soon leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone of giant heather.

The trail climbs steadily with wide views to reach the rim of the Shira Plateau. There is a tangible sense of wilderness, especially if afternoon mists come in! We camp in the centre of the plateau at “Shira One” (3550 m).

Day 4. Shira One to Shira Hut. (Hiking Time 4-5 hours / Altitude: 3840 m).

This is a steady day trekking to help with your acclimatization. It will also give you time to explore the volcanic rock formations of Shira Plateau. We walk to the summit of Shira Cathedral before reaching the next camp at Shira Hut (3840 m).

This campsite has stunning views, close to the glaciated dome of Kibo and the jagged rim of Shira Plateau. The views from here of Mount Meru floating on the clouds are simply unforgettable.

Day 5. Excursions from Shira Hut. (Hiking Time: 4-5 hours / Max Altitude: 4700 m).

We explore beneath the Northern Ice fields, an area almost totally unvisited by tourists and with an unusual view of Kibo. The excursion can be either a steady climb to reach the ridge above Moir Hut (4200 m) or a more strenuous walk to reach the summit of the Lent Hills (4700 m).

For the remainder of the day you are free to rest and enjoy our peaceful campsite for a second night.

Day 6. Shira Hut to Great Barrbco Valley. (Hiking Time: 5-7 hours / Altitude: 3900 m).

A morning of steady ascent and panoramic views, leaving the Moorland Plateau behind and proceed to the Lava Ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach.

The terrain changes to scree, with pockets of vegetation in sheltered hollows. We keep enjoying the morning of gentle ascent and panoramic views, leaving the Moorland Plateau behind to walk on Lava Ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach.

After lunch near the Lava Tower junction (4550 m) we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco Valley (3900 m), sheltered by towering cliffs and with extensive views of the plains far below.

Day 7. Great Barranco Valley to Karanga Camp. (Hiking Time: 3-4 hours / Altitude: 4650 m).

A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads us to an undulating trail on the South-Eastern flank of Kibo, with superb vistas of the Southern Ice Fields.

We camp at Karanga (4100 m), the last water point and situated in a steep valley. The afternoon can be spent resting or exploring the valley to help acclimatisation.

Day 8. Karangu Camp to Barafu Camp. (Hiking Time: 4-5 hours / Altitude: 4650 m).

A short but steep climb out of Karanga Camp, and an easy path on compacted scree with wide views. We then climb steadily to reach the Barafu Campsite (4650 m). The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent.

Day 9. Barafu Camp to Crater Camp. (Hiking Time: 4-5 hours / Altitude: 5650 m).
We will start our ascent at about 8 am. This day will take us to the crater floor at Stella Point.

The path is of unrelenting steepness on loose scree with occasional easy scrambling over rocks to reach the crater floor (5750 m).

From this point we climb down to the Crater Camp just beside Furtongla Glacier (5650 m).

Day 10: Crater Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweki Camp.  (Hiking Time: 10 hours+).
Summit day!

We have only 800 feet to go but it will not be easy. Spare a thought for the hikers on other routes who started their summit attempts at midnight! It will take about one-and-a-half hours to reach Uhuru Peak. You will not be alone – others have been arriving since 6 am. Soon you will be able to have a photo opportunity next to the famous posted sign at the top.

But please be prepared for an aftershock – the way down is a steep, rigorous route via Stella Point down the mountain to Barafu Camp where we will stop for lunch.

On the way down you may pass other trekkers who are still on the way up! Many hikers are unprepared for this 4 hour ordeal down the slippery slope of scree.

On arrival at Barafu Camp you will have a good rest before tackling the rest of the way down Mount Kilimanjaro.

It is time to relax and think about your experiences of the past week. The way down to Mweka Camp is a comfortable walk but rather dusty.

There are many other climbers on this trail and plenty of stories and experiences to share. It is noisy all the way to the Mweka Camp but we should be there by the early afternoon.

Day 11. Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and return to Moshi.

Breakfast is at 8:00 am and followed by a small ceremony of thanks before we start the remainder of the trip down to Mweka Gate.

At the gate, we are treated with a final feast of fruits and drinks, and an opportunity to buy a few souvenirs! We then sign the register and gather for the presentation of our climbing certificates by our guides.

Sadly, this will be when it is time to say goodbye to our mountain team. With their assistance, we achieved something extraordinary! The Kilimanjaro Bound team will then transfer back to the hotel by car.

At the hotel, it is time to shower, get laundry done and take a long and well earned rest.

Day 12.
Your room at the Lodge is reserved for late checkout so that you can relax before your flight home or a new destination if you signed up for one of our optional excursions.

If you fly back home, your driver will meet you for the transfer to the airport.
