Your adventure begins at Lemosho Glades, located on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After registration at the gate, you’ll start your journey by trekking through the lush Montane Forest, rich in wildlife such as Colobus monkeys and colorful birds. The trail is gentle, offering a pleasant introduction to Kilimanjaro’s diverse ecosystems.
After 3-4 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa), your first campsite, located deep within the forest. The tranquil sounds of the rainforest make for a peaceful night under the stars.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Day 3 is a shorter, easier trek across the expansive Shira Plateau, one of the most scenic parts of the entire journey. You’ll have ample opportunities to take in panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks and enjoy the plateau’s unique flora, including giant heathers and lobelias.
You’ll reach Shira 2 Camp, located higher up on the plateau, where the stunning views of the surrounding mountains will be even more pronounced. This day allows for rest and proper acclimatization.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower, Then Descend to Barranco Camp

After a rest at Lava Tower, you’ll descend into the Barranco Valley, where the oxygen is more abundant. The descent brings you to Barranco Camp, situated at the base of the famous Barranco Wall, offering stunning views of the towering cliffs and surrounding glaciers.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, Then Descend to Mweka Camp

From Stella Point, it’s a relatively short walk to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Standing at Uhuru Peak is a moment of triumph, as you gaze upon the surrounding glaciers and endless African plains. After taking photos and savoring the experience, you’ll begin the long descent back to Barafu Camp, where you’ll rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp, deep in the Montane Forest.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevation: 3,080 meters (10,105 ft) to 1,640 meters (5,380 ft)
