Day 1 of The Best Nine(9)-Days Lemosho Kilimanjaro’s Climbing full itinerary for 2025/2026-2027: Arrival in Tanzania – Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Take the day to relax, meet your guide, and prepare for the upcoming climb.

Day 2: Moshi to Londorossi Gate (2,250m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: 7 km / 4.3 miles
Elevation Gain: +570m
After a morning transfer to Londorossi Gate for registration, drive to the trailhead where your trek begins. The day’s hike takes you through the lush rainforest, where you may spot wildlife such as monkeys and colorful birds. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for your first night.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
Distance: 8 km / 5 miles
Elevation Gain: +680m
The trail ascends steeply out of the rainforest, transitioning to the moorland zone with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Climb up to the Shira Ridge before descending slightly to reach Shira 1 Camp for the night.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: 7 km / 4.3 miles
Elevation Gain: +350m
Continue across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on Earth, where you can enjoy a leisurely hike with stunning views of Kibo Peak. Reach Shira 2 Camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Hiking Time: 7-8 hours
Distance: 10 km / 6.2 miles
Elevation Gain: +780m (to Lava Tower), then -670m (to Barranco Camp)
Today’s trek includes a significant elevation gain, as you hike to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. The hike provides excellent views of Kilimanjaro’s western breach and Lava Tower.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 5 km / 3.1 miles
Elevation Gain: +75m
Start the day with a challenging climb up the Great Barranco Wall, which requires some scrambling. Once at the top, traverse a series of ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp for the night.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 4 km / 2.5 miles
Elevation Gain: +638m
A shorter hike today brings you to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing for the night’s ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,068m)

Hiking Time: 12-15 hours
Distance: 17 km / 10.6 miles
Elevation Gain: +1,222m (to Uhuru Peak), then -2,827m (to Mweka Camp)
Begin the final push to the summit around midnight. Trek through the darkness, reaching Stella Point (5,739m) before the final ascent to Uhuru Peak. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Moshi

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: 10 km / 6.2 miles
Elevation Loss: -1,428m
Make the final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a celebratory meal and a night of relaxation.
