Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Transfer: To your hotel in Arusha/Moshi. After arrival, you’ll have a pre-climb briefing with your guide, ensuring you’re prepared for the adventure ahead.
Overnight: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.

Day 2: Umbwe Gate (1,600m) to Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m)

Distance: 11 km
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, you’ll drive to the Umbwe Gate for registration. The trek begins through dense rainforest with steep paths as you ascend rapidly through the forest zone. You’ll enjoy rich vegetation, giant trees, and possibly sightings of wildlife. The day ends at Umbwe Cave Camp.

Day 3: Umbwe Cave (2,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Distance: 6 km
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Moorland
The forest begins to thin out as you climb higher, transitioning into the heath and moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper, but as you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of Kilimanjaro’s western breach and the expansive Barranco Valley. The day ends at the scenic Barranco Camp, which sits below the Barranco Wall.

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Distance: 5 km
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
You’ll begin the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical scramble. After reaching the top of the wall, the trail undulates across ridges and valleys until you arrive at Karanga Camp. The day is relatively short to aid acclimatization.

Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Distance: 4 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
The trek to Barafu Camp is a gradual but steady climb through barren alpine desert. You’ll arrive at Barafu, the final camp before the summit, in the early afternoon, with time to rest and prepare for the early morning summit attempt.

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,080m)

Summit Ascent Distance: 5 km
Descent to Mweka Distance: 12 km
Hiking Time: 12-15 hours
Habitat: Arctic (summit) to Rainforest (descent)
Around midnight, you’ll begin the final push to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The ascent is steep and challenging, trekking over scree and snow. After 6-8 hours of steady climbing, you’ll reach Stella Point (5,756m) at the crater rim, and from there, it’s a short ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa!

After celebrating at the summit, you’ll begin your descent, retracing your steps back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, and then continue down to Mweka Camp for the night.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,080m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m)

Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
The final day is a gentle descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates and meet your driver for the return transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

Day 8: Departure

Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure or continue with other activities in Tanzania.
