The 5-day Kilimanjaro Marangu Route is a classic path offering a direct yet beautiful trek to the summit. Often called the “Coca-Cola” route due to its popularity, this route features comfortable hut accommodations along the way and offers an easier, less technical climb with moderate difficulty. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the full package and itinerary:

5-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Route Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where you’ll be met by our team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi.
Briefing: Your head guide will review the gear and itinerary with you and answer any questions.
Overnight Stay: Hotel in Moshi.

Day 2: Moshi (1,400m) – Marangu Gate (1,870m) – Mandara Hut (2,700m)

Trekking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 8km
Depart from Moshi and drive to Marangu Gate for registration.
Begin your ascent through lush rainforest. Enjoy sightings of Colobus monkeys and bird species.
Overnight: Mandara Hut, a cozy mountain hut with bunk beds.

Day 3: Mandara Hut (2,700m) – Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Trekking Time: 6–7 hours | Distance: 12km
Hike through alpine moorland with scenic views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Enjoy a gradual ascent and acclimatization during the day.
Overnight: Horombo Hut, located in a valley overlooking the saddle connecting the two peaks.

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720m) – Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Trekking Time: 6–8 hours | Distance: 10km
The landscape changes to semi-desert and rugged terrain as you approach the base of Kibo.
The trek is more challenging with the increasing altitude.
Overnight: Kibo Hut, at the foot of the summit climb.

Day 5: Kibo Hut (4,700m) – Summit (5,895m) – Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Trekking Time to Summit: 6–8 hours | Distance to Summit: 6km
Descent Time to Horombo: 5–6 hours | Descent Distance: 15km
Start the summit attempt around midnight for a pre-dawn ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After reaching the summit and enjoying the sunrise, descend back to Kibo Hut for a rest before continuing to Horombo Hut for the night.

Day 6: Horombo Hut (3,720m) – Marangu Gate (1,870m) – Moshi (1,400m)

Trekking Time: 6–7 hours | Distance: 20km
A gradual descent back through the rainforest to Marangu Gate.
After receiving your certificate, transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.
Overnight Stay: Hotel in Moshi.
Relax and recover at your hotel before being transferred to the airport for your departure.
