Day-to-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Enjoy a pre-trek briefing, meet your guides, and prepare for the climb. Overnight stay in Moshi.
Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,800m to 3,000m
Distance: 11km
Time: 5-7 hours
Transfer to Machame Gate for registration, then start your trek through lush rainforests. Arrive at Machame Camp and settle in for the night.
Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Elevation: 3,000m to 3,840m
Distance: 5km
Time: 4-6 hours
Hike through the moorland zone, enjoying panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks. Overnight at Shira Camp, with breathtaking vistas of the mountain and surrounding landscape.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,840m to 3,960m
Distance: 10km
Time: 6-8 hours
Traverse the Shira Plateau and head towards Barranco Camp, passing the Lava Tower and experiencing dramatic landscapes.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 3,960m to 4,640m
Distance: 13km
Time: 7-9 hours
Climb the Barranco Wall and traverse the alpine desert to reach Barafu Camp. This is your base for the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the ascent.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (Summit) and Descent to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) and back to 3,100m
Distance: 6km ascent, 13km descent
Time: 12-14 hours
Begin your summit attempt in the early hours, reaching Uhuru Peak at dawn. Celebrate your success and descend to Mweka Camp for an overnight stay.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure
Elevation: 3,100m to 1,800m
Distance: 10km
Time: 3-4 hours
Complete your descent to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for your departure or extend your stay if you wish.
