Day-to-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your climbing team, review the itinerary, and prepare for the trek. Overnight stay in Moshi.

Day 2: Moshi to Lemosho Gate and Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Elevation: 1,800m to 2,650m
Distance: 6km
Time: 4-5 hours
Transfer to Lemosho Gate for registration. Begin your trek through lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp. Enjoy dinner and rest at the camp.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Elevation: 2,650m to 3,500m
Distance: 8km
Time: 5-6 hours
Hike through the moorland zone and arrive at Shira 1 Camp. Enjoy the expansive views and prepare for the next day’s ascent.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Elevation: 3,500m to 3,900m
Distance: 6km
Time: 3-4 hours
Continue your trek across the Shira Plateau, with stunning panoramic views, to Shira 2 Camp. Use the afternoon for acclimatization and relaxation.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Elevation: 3,900m to 4,600m (Lava Tower) and descend to 3,950m (Barranco Camp)
Distance: 10km
Time: 6-8 hours
Trek up to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy aids in acclimatization.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,950m to 4,200m
Distance: 6km
Time: 4-5 hours
Navigate the Barranco Wall and continue to Karanga Camp. Enjoy the breathtaking views and prepare for the summit push.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4,200m to 4,600m
Distance: 4km
Time: 3-4 hours
Hike to Barafu Camp, your final camp before the summit. Rest, eat, and prepare for the summit attempt early the next morning.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (Summit) and Descend to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,600m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) and back to 3,100m
Distance: 7km ascent, 23km descent
Time: 12-15 hours
Start your summit push in the early hours to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Celebrate your achievement, then descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure

Elevation: 3,100m to 1,800m
Distance: 10km
Time: 3-4 hours
Complete your descent to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Moshi for your departure or extend your stay if desired.
