Day-to-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing and enjoy an overnight stay in preparation for the climb.

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Elevation: 1,800m to 3,000m
Distance: 11km
Time: 5-7 hours
Transfer to Machame Gate for registration, then start your trek through the lush rainforest. Arrive at Machame Camp and settle in for the night.

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Elevation: 3,000m to 3,840m
Distance: 5km
Time: 4-6 hours
Hike through the moorland zone, enjoying expansive views of Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Shira Camp, with excellent views of the mountain and surrounding landscapes.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3,840m to 3,960m
Distance: 10km
Time: 6-8 hours
Trek across the Shira Plateau, then descend to Barranco Camp, taking in the dramatic scenery of the Lava Tower and the Great Barranco Wall.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,960m to 3,995m
Distance: 7km
Time: 4-5 hours
Climb the Barranco Wall in the morning, then proceed to Karanga Camp. This shorter trek day allows for proper acclimatization and preparation for the summit push.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 3,995m to 4,640m
Distance: 8km
Time: 4-6 hours
Continue to Barafu Camp, located at the base of the summit. Rest and prepare for the final ascent.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (Summit) and Descent to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) and back to 3,100m
Distance: 6km ascent, 13km descent
Time: 12-14 hours
Start your summit attempt in the early hours to reach Uhuru Peak at dawn. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp for an overnight stay.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure

Elevation: 3,100m to 1,800m
Distance: 10km
Time: 3-4 hours
Complete your descent to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for your departure or extend your stay if desired.
