Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Transfer: To your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. You’ll meet your guide in the evening for a pre-climb briefing, equipment check, and overview of the journey ahead.
Overnight: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
Day 2: Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (2,835m)

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration. The trek begins through dense rainforest, filled with towering trees, lush greenery, and diverse wildlife, such as monkeys and birds. The path can be muddy, but the gradual incline makes for an enjoyable start. You’ll arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 3: Machame Camp (2,835m) to Shira Camp (3,750m)
Distance: 5 km
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Leaving the rainforest, the trail becomes steeper as you enter the moorland zone, characterized by heathers and rocky terrain. You’ll cross several ridges with panoramic views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. Arrive at Shira Camp, where you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery and rest.
Day 4: Shira Camp (3,750m) to Lava Tower (4,630m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

This day is critical for acclimatization. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m, where you’ll have lunch and take in the view. The “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to the altitude. Afterward, descend to Barranco Camp, situated beneath the towering Barranco Wall.
Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Start the day by scaling the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb with magnificent views from the top. Continue across valleys and ridges in the alpine desert, eventually arriving at Barafu Camp in the afternoon. Here, you’ll have an early dinner and rest before the midnight summit attempt.
Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Descend to Mweka Camp (3,068m)
Distance: 17 km (5 km ascent, 12 km descent)
Hiking Time: 10-14 hours
Habitat: Arctic, Alpine Desert, and Rainforest
Your summit attempt begins at midnight, heading toward Uhuru Peak. This challenging section requires perseverance, as the thin air makes breathing difficult. As the sun rises, you’ll reach Stella Point (5,756m) and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) the highest point in Africa! After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp.
Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,068m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m)
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, make your final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll collect your summit certificates. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
